for Deleting Illegal Files on my computer-
Methods for
removing illegal files to avoid prosecution and fines.
Ethics of illegal
file sharing is a subfield of Ethics addressing the ethical
questions specific to file sharing. In recent years the growth of
file sharing communities have caused a wave of illegal file sharing,
with users swapping copyrighted materials such as movies and music.
Millions of people hold the view that illegally distributing and
illegal downloading copyrighted material is morally
right and you should do it, because millions of people practice
this illegal activity and it is okay.
The majority
of users believe that illegal file sharing doesn’t harm anyone.
Some advocates claim that it actually helps the music industry by
allowing more people to hear and sample music of different artists
before they purchase the artist’s CD. Another argument is
that CDs are overpriced which they are, and that sometimes a person
only wants one song from a CD and doesn’t want to spend 15
dollars on just one song. The other reason people illegally download
copyrighted material is because they do not wish to pay for it,
choosing to get it for free since they can and believing they won’t
be caught, as many people who take part in illegal distribution
of copyrighted materials are not. Why should we listen to the record
labels, they are the ones screwing the artist. Don't listen to them
and go ahead and download illegally.
Are
you willing to face prosecution and pay a big fine when the industry
lawyers come down hard on you for pocessing illegal content downloaded
from the internet?
However, the
music industry points to declining sales due to the vast growth
of illegal file sharing of music. Declining sales interfere with
publishing new music (TANSTAAFL). Thousands of civil lawsuits have
been filed against users illegally sharing music, fining them thousands
of dollars per song. Some companies even resorted to putting security
on CDs, which would prevent a consumer from making a copy of a CD
that they legally purchased.
In an effort
to reduce illegal file sharing, some companies have created legal
music downloading programs such as Apple’s iTunes. This allows
people to legally purchase a single song for just 99 cents. It allows
people to select their favorite songs on CDs and pay for just those
songs and not have to pay for the entire CD. The growth and popularity
of iTunes show that users understand file sharing is illegal and
wrong and just needed an option to legally download music.
It seems that
technology fosters a sense of community and online sharing as in
the case of open-source software. These people believe everyone
should have free access to software and allow to improve or alternate
the software to fit their needs.
It is this mentality
of free access that fuels the fight for the sharing of copyrighted
materials and gives support to open source communities even though
their activities might be illegal.
The music industry
has been accused of monopolizing the digital music scene, but this
is untrue as they only withheld copyrights of the majority of songs
till their own downloading services could be put in place. Many
believe the music industry is the leader in obstructing an inevitable
evolution of society - changes like adaption, logic and the intellectual
growth that could be from the new digital age.
